38 years ago, Mary Reynolds started a little neighborhood parade down the street in front of her house and had the kids back to her house for cookies and soda after.

That handful of kids have grown themselves and now bring their kids participate in the annual event.  This year over 200 little ones came marching over the hill to the delight of resident onlookers
.

It is easy to tell that Mary Reynolds of Thomaston loves her family, community and country, and she enjoys events such as these because they teach the new generation the meaning of patriotism.

Where once children paraded in casual bliss on a seldom traveled road, police now close off the thoroughfare and reroute traffic for the several hours needed to complete the parade.

As much as life has changed in America, so much of it has remained the same.
Bicycles may have been replaced in part by mini motorized vehicles,  the clothes are more colorful, and decorations more elaborate that the home spun creations of the first parades here, but the sense of community and sense of country remain strong and alive!

Where so many children come from to participate in this parade remains a mystery ... and no on is asking ... no one cares ... all are certainly welcome!
... and somewhat like the story of the loaves and the fishes from the bible, there is always enough soda and cookies for everyone.
